I've had this little wooden plaque on my wall since I was a boy. I wish it had a motorcycle not a car but hey, you can't aways get what you want, right?
Thanks for visiting my site, which is likely to contain stuff and nonsense relating to any number things: More motorcycles than cars. More nonsense than stuff. More pies than cakes. Go for your life...
153 teams with more than 600 participants under the age of 24 have taken part in this years' Outlook for Someday Sustainability Film Challenge, making 2011 the biggest yet. Tonight is the official, red carpet, prize-giving shindig at the Aotea Centre.
I'm one of 13 ambassadors for the project, which challenges young people to "Make a sustainability-related film, filmed with any camera and length up to 5 minutes." Cool eh?
Here's a little promo I made while I was supposed to be filming the 'official' promo, with the amazing Liesha Ward Knox. Click here to watch the "actual" promo.
I was recently asked to be an ambassador for "The Outlook for Someday" which is a very cool sustainability film competition for under 25's.
We shot a promo for the competition today and I snapped a few pics and vids in the process. That camera in the image above (can't remember the name) is an old TVNZ news camera. Apparently PJ also shot "Bad Taste" on one.
Window in ceiling of studio. Not in the least bit important, I just like the shot.
I'm chuffed to be involved with TOFS and not only because it's a great project but because I'm an ambassador virgin. Virgin ambassador? That's not quite working either. Anyway, I've never been an ambassador before. I'm assuming I'll need to get some of those ambassador flags on the little sticks, for the corners of my car. I'm just not sure what flag I put on them. Is there an official sustainability flag? Perhaps I'll just run with a jute shopping bag on the handlebars of my bike for a start, ease into the whole operation.
The wonderful and talented Leisha Ward Knox, co-ambassadoring.
I like TOFS (the project, not so much the acronym) because it's aimed at under 25's. Frankly, I think talking sustainability to anyone over the age of 25 is a waste of time. You're either preaching to the converted or it's too late: "Old dog - new tricks," that kind of thing.
I also like the fact they're encouraging the filmmakers to take a really broad view of sustainability, not just focus on the same old environmental arguments.
That and the fact that anything which encourages people, especially young people, to go out and make films is worth supporting in my book.
So, if you're even remotely inclined I'd suggest you take a look and, even better, help spread the word. Better yet, grab an under 25yo (not too hard mind, the little petals bruise easily) and a camera, and tell us a story...
BTW, that's not the actual promo, just the result of my mucking about onset. The real thing will be a mullion times better aye.
